Play Amstrad CPC Games On Your Nintendo 3DS XL And Nintendo 2DS

The Amstrad CPC computer system may not have garnered a lot of fame out site of the UK, but it was a huge contender in the UK computer market as well as several other European countries like France, Spain and the German speaking parts of Europe.  The main competition to the Amstrad CPC were systems like the C64 and the ZX Spectrum, both of which had a strong hold on the home computer / gaming market at the time.  The Amstrad CPC (short for color personal computer) enjoyed a huge library of games during its life between 1984 and 1990.  It was also one of the only true ALL IN ONE computers with a built in Tape Drive and later a Disk Drive, to enable the loading of games right out of the box.

The CPC ended up having some 6 different models.  Starting with the CPC464 with 64KB of Ram, right of the the CPC6128, that had a whopping (at the time) 128KB of memory built right in.  It ended up selling some 3 million units, which was no small feat in the early days of home and personal computers.

Today, you can relive and play some of the amazing Amstrad CPC games on your Nintendo 3DS console thanks to the R4 3DS and the CrocoDS v2 Amstrad CPC emulator for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 2DS, DSi and the original DS system.  CrocoDS offers near perfect emulation for virtually every single game in the Amstrad CPC library, and we'll be posting some gameplay videos shortly, showing off just what this homebrew emulator can do.

The Amstrad CPC had a good number of really big exclusive games.  In fact, some of the biggest 8-bit era games got their start on the CPC itself.  Games like Jet Set Willy 2, Sorcery +, Spindizzy, and of course, the very famous Dizzy franchise.  All of these games were first released for the Amstrad CPC and ended up being ported to other systems. Wikipedia has a great article on the Amstrad CPC for those who don't know about it.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amstrad_CPC

CrocoDS has been around for some time, in several versions and revisions.  With each updating adding better compatibility or new features as time has gone on.  It works using the R4 3DS card, the R4 3DS Dual Core and most other 3DS Flash Cards out there.  It supports the Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi and DSi XL as well as the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL and the latest Nintendo 2DS consoles.

Some of the updates in the Amstrad CPC 6128 (the 128K version of the Amstrad CPC) include:
