Pokemon Diglett Becomes A Playable Character In Streets of Rage 2

Rom hacks are one of our favorite things.  They take some of our old familiar games and add in new characters, enhanced graphics and in some cases, a whole heck of a lot of humor.  Imagine playing Street Fighter 2 On your Super NES, but with a Character from the Simpsons.  Or Perhaps to finally have the chance to play those amazing Japanese RPG games that have been carefully translated by fans in to English from the Japanese original.  These are the types of ROM hacks that make rom hacking so much fun and - in the case of translations - Important for gamers to be able to enjoy their games.

There are literally thousands of rom hack out there that have been released over time.  Over time we've seen a wide range of ROM hacks which have enhanced in game graphics, fixed coding erros or glitches in games, translated Japanese exclusives, and added in brand new levels. Amongst these is occasionally one release which reminds us how amusing our favourite past times can be, when usual gameplay elements or additions are thrown into the mix. The latest of these sees the ground Pokemon Diglett arriving as a playable character in Streets of Rage 2 on the Sega Genesis / Sega Mega Drive 16bit Console system.

Known for its raw violence and addictive gameplay, Streets of Rage is the last place you'd ever expect to see one of Nintendo's adorable monsters from the Pokemon franchise. While there are several suitable fighters such as Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee - two fighting type Pokemon based up famous martial artists - this recent addition to Streets of Rage through ROM hacking is anything but the brawler you'd expect to see.

Diglett in Streets of Rage 2 may be one of the most amusing (and strange and Bizzare) ROM hack we've ever seen to date.  If you're a fan of 16-bit games (if you're not, you SHOULD BE) you can enjoy this game with your legally obtained ROM of Streets of Rage 2, and the jEnesis Emulator for the R4 3DS and play it right on your Nintendo 3DS / 3DS XL systems.
