Loading... Please wait...Flashback is a game that has stood the test of time and remains as much fun to play as it was when it was first released for the Commodore Amiga way back in 1992. It was THE science fiction game, and one that had you glued to your monitor as you went through the 7 stages filled with action and puzzles of increasing difficulty. Thanks to the work of some homebrew developers and the R4 3DS, you can re-live the gaming goodness right on your Nintendo 3DS system. The game is released free of charge of course, under the freeware / homebrew model.
All you need is your Nintendo DS, DSi or Nintendo 3DS XL, and of course an R4 3DS card and you'll be all set to play this remarkable classic!
Flashback was so popular that it ended up being ported to most major computer systems and all of the biggest video game systems of the era. It was such a commercial success that it ended up being listed in the Guiness World Records for being the best selling French game of all time.
Flashback stood out from the rest because of the deep story line. You weren't just thrown on the screen and had your standard platform game. It mixed elements of Platform games, and live action style cinema all done on the fly. Much like Prince Of Persia, the main character in the game, Conrad, seems to show realistic movements and running speed as well as realistic human weaknesses. For example, if he falls from a ledge that's too high, he'll die.
The game starts with Conrad waking up in a jungle… except the jungle is on Titan. He's lost his memory and has no idea who or where he is. Unbeknownst to Conrad, he's right smack in the middle of a shape shifting alien invasion… and the aliens have formed a sinister plot to destroy the plant Earth.
The story then goes on, and gets much more involved. It is truly a game that any series gamer should get their hands on and play.
Any of our R4 3DS cards will run the game itself. Having this game on a portable system, with the proper screen resolution makes this one of the best homebrew games ever. The 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL screen is perfectly suited to show off all of the amazing animation and fluid movements of the characters. It's a game that you won't want to put down… and by having it on your hand held, you won't have to.
Check out the video below for some gameplay footage running on a DS. The game plays just as well on a 3DS or a Nintendo 3DS XL.
Flashback DS is the game engine. In order to play the game, you will need the original game datafiles of the PC (DOS or CD) or Amiga release. These can be found online, or if you have your old copy of the game, you can of course use the files from your game. You can use French, English, German or Spanish version.
