As most of us are already aware, the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL systems both received a software update in the last 2 days. This update puts the current system OS version running on Nintendo 3DS and 3DS XL systems at 6.2.0 As is the case with all updates for the 3DS, we urge all customers to NOT update their hand helds until a new firmware has been released by the factory. If you update your 3DS or 3DS XL console, you'll likely find that the R4 3DS card is no longer recognized and won't show up as an installed cartridge on your home screen. This does NOT mean that the 3DS is broken. And it also does not indicate that your R4 is damaged or will no longer work.
We've always advised customers that updating is not something we recommend, unless the new feature or function is truly such a must have for your daily use of the 3DS system, that you can't help but to update your console. In any event, the best way to update your system is always to first wait for a new firmware release for your card, to ensure that it will be compatible with the new 3ds system os. Once the new firmware kernel files are made available for our system, download and install the new firmware and run it in your 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL.
Now you're ready to update. Once you use the new compatible firmware kernel for the first time, it makes the R4 3DS Card compatible with your 3DS again, and you're free to upgrade or run the system update on your handheld. If however you have updated your 3DS prior to a new firmware release... don't worry. We've got that covered too, but you'll need to do a few extra steps in order to get it to update the chip in the R4 3DS prior to being able to use the new firmware.
If you want to be certain that you don't accidentally update your 3DS, you can turn off automatic updates in the system settins, usually found under parental controls. Once you do that, you'll still be able to update your 3ds, but it won't be done by accident, and certainly not automatically!
Check our our selection of compatible R4 3DS cards, and make sure you visit our firmware page to check for the new firmware kernel release, which will be coming soon.
