3DS Homebrew Super Smash Bros Clash 3DS Available For Nintendo 3DS XL

Super Smash Bros 3DS

I'm a huge Smash Bros / Smash Brother Fan.  I have been since the very first instalment of the game was released, and I've bought every single one since then.

Super Smash Brothers is coming to the 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U soon, unless there's a delay with the release of course.  But if you're like me and can't wait there are other ways to get your Smash Bros fix on your Nintendo 3DS system.

I'm talking of course about one more DS and 3DS Homebrew game.  This time it's a fan made game for all of the Super Smash Bros gamers out there.  Allowing you to experience SSB in a whole different way on your DS, DSi and 3DS system.

Super Smash Bros. Clash is a 3DS homebrew game created, maintained, developed and designed by gamers, for fans of the series.  And right now, it's the only way you can get your Smash Bros Fix on your DS, DSi and Nintendo 3DS system.  And it even features an amazing 4 player local multiplayer mode so that all of your friends can get in to the action with you for some serious gaming.

What makes Super Smash Bros so popular?  It's easy if you ask any gamer who is a fan of the series.  Personally, I think it's great because of of the complete freedom when you fight.  You can move anywhere on the level, and do a slew of combo attacks.  Not to mention the multiplayer that gives this game true endless replay value.

It's also one of those games that you can pickup and play for 10 - 15 minutes when you have just a little bit of time, and still walk away feeling like you had a great game.   What makes it really cool for most gamers though is the fact that you take all of Nintendo's characters, you know.. cute, friendly, and all of that… and pit them against each other in an endless fight with every single game.

Even more impressive is that there's a whole forum devoted to this homebrew game, where gamers/players and the developers of the game chat and talk and discuss new features which often end up getting added to new released of this homebrew title.

From what I can see, the game itself keeps evolving and getting bigger and better with every release, due in no small part to the developers behind it, and equally as much to the gamers that support the project.

Check out the gameplay video below.  It's part of the on going development of the game, and as such, there may be more characters added, and additional levels available.  Nonetheless, the Super Smash Bros video games a good idea and a decent look at just how amazing homebrew and freeware gaming can be.

Despite all of us here always talking about homebrew and how free games are great, we know a lot of readers don't realize that the games we review and talk about are absolutely FREE for everyone to download and play.  The developers of the games and apps we feature don't expect any payment and don't sell the games they create. They release them free of charge for the entire world to enjoy, so long as they have an R4 3DS or similar multimedia card to play them with.

The developers have pulled of something that a lot of homebrew gamers have always wanted.  A game that plays like, looks like, and could easily be mistaken for a full blown retail bought game.

Check out some of the features:

  • Over 50 characters
  • Supports C++ Programmming
  • Breaks the 64x64 Sprite Limit for bigger characters
  • Easy character and stage system - for novice programmers
  • Character Costumes
  • Smash Cam (play and see)
  • 4-player Local Multiplayer - WOW!!!

The gameplay video is showing the game playing on a DS, however, it works just the same on a Nintendo DSi, DSi XL as well as the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL.  Due to the higher quality screens on the 3DS and 3DS XL systems, the game actually ends up looking better, despite no special additions for 3DS graphics.

The SSBC Forums have not been updated by the developer for a little while.   Our 3DS homebrew section however will be updated with each and every new release that comes out.
