R4 3DS XL Compatible Cards

On a daily basis, we have visitors to our site write and ask us questions about the products and the features that these products have.  We are of course always happy to help, and love answering any questions that our valued visitors and customers send our way.

One of the most frequent questions we receive though is whether or not our various types of R4 3DS Card products work on the Nintendo 3DS XL.  The question usually comes in the form of wondering whether or not we have an R4 3DS XL card.  And it makes perfect sense.  Our products are called R4 3DS, but with the release of  the new Nintendo 3DS XL some time ago, people wonder whether the same card will work - or whether we have a whole different R4 3DS XL version of our card.

We are pleased to let all of your know that our R4 3DS is also compatible and works on the 3DS XL.  While we don't label any of the cards as R4 3DS XL cards specifically, the work exactly the same way on those systems too.  Much like the DSi and the DSi XL, the 3DS and 3DS XL are exactly the same systems.  The only difference being the larger screen on the bigger system.  Internally all of the same hardware is used.

All of our R4 3DS and R4i Gold 3DS cards will work on all systems without any issues at all.  We understand why some visitors would be confused.  The R4i SDHC cards for example which were introduced with the DSi and DSi XL, don't work on the 3DS or 3DS XL.  However, as long as you're buying an "R4 3DS" version of our cards, you'll be all good to go regardless of the 3DS console you have.  In fact, the compatibility chart on the red box R4 3DS shows that it is 100% 3DS XL compatible.

For those of you wondering about backwards compatibility, you're all in luck.  All of the cards made for the 3DS are also 100% backwards compatible.  This means that if you want to use the card on a DS, DS Lite, DSi or DSi XL, the same card will work for all systems, not just on the Nintendo 3DS.  We often have customers with a DSi or DS Lite purchasing a 3DS R4 card as they plan to upgrade in the future.
