R4 3DS .org

The R4i Gold 3DS Card has been updated with new support for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL 6.3.0 systems.  As is the case with some Nintendo 3DS updates to the system software, sometimes the unintended result is that the R4 3DS type cards are not recognized by the system.

This is NOT a bricking, nor does it mean that the cards will no longer work, it just means that a new firmware kernel has to be released for the specific card in order for the 3DS or 3DS XL to recognize the cards.  

There are however also cases where the previous firmware version works just fine on the Nintendo 3DS systems and the R4i Gold 3DS cards, and that is exactly the case with the latest firmware release for the R4i Gold.  The last firmware that was released was version 1.62 which was released in August to bring compatibility for the 3DS 6.2.0 systems.  

With the new 6.3.0 update, the very same firmware kernel will enable you to play all of your homebrew, games, applications, multimedia and emulators on your Nintendo 3DS / 3DS XL consoles.

The R4i Gold 3DS uses Wood R4 firmware, which is not at version 1.62 bringing with it updates and fixes to some games, compatibility for better multi media playback and a slew of small bug fixes, most of which did not impact the end user, but were bugs that had to be fixed to ensure continued firmware compatibility from the developer stand point.

If your card was working just fine on the 6.2.0 system version, then you do not have to update or patch your firmware for your R4i Gold at all, as it will continue to work on the 6.3.0 systems as well.

If however you have not yet updated your Nintendo 3DS system, then we urge you to first download the latest firmware kernel, install it on your R4i Gold, and then go proceed to updating your Nintendo 3DS or 3DS XL to the latest system software.  Doing it in the reverse order (updating your 3DS first, prior to installing the latest firmware) will mean that you will have to use a patch file on a DS or DSI console in order for you to be able to load and run the 1.62 version R4i Gold on the 6.3.0 version Nintendo 3DS system.
