R4 3DS Working Perfectly On The Nintendo 2DS

We spoke not too long ago about the new Nintendo 2DS that was, at the time, just a few weeks away from released.  As of October 15th, the Nintendo 2DS has been released world wide, and people are starting to pick them up as gifts for the holidays, due to the lower price point and full compatibility with the entire Nintendo 3DS library.

Now that we've had the chance to test the Nintendo 2DS with some of the most popular R4 3DS cards, we're ready to make our report on just how well the card works.  And work it does.  So far we've tested all of our cards, and we'll cover them all in the next few days to a week, to ensure that all cards are covered, so that our old and new customers can make a determination on which card to buy or whether or not the card they have will work.

The Nintendo 2DS comes standard with the 6.0.0-12 firmware.  Whether it's a 6.0.0-12/e /u or /j, the R4 3DS Card  has been tested and is working fine.  Naturally, the 2DS receives all of the same updates and system software that the 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL receives, so people are updating the systems to the 6.3.0 versions when they receive them and are prompted for an update.  Thankfully, as has been tested and confirmed, even the 2DS systems running the latest 6.3 update are working just fine with the R4 3DS.

We've received a lot of questions about whether or not the using the R4 on the 2DS requires different firmware for the R4 itself.  It does not.  The very same firmware files that you now download and use for the 3DS and 3DS XL, will work on the 2DS.   Naturally if different firmware files were needed, we would release a new set of kernel firmware downloads just for the 2DS, but as it stands, you are able to use the exact same firmware from our firmware section.

To confirm, the R4 3DS is working fine on the Nintendo 2DS systems.  We've tested it on the USA, European as well as Japanese 2DS consoles, and it works from the default 6.0.0 firmware right up to the latest 6.3.0 firmware files.  If you've just purchased a new 2DS consoles, then take advantage of the amazing 3DS homebrew you can enjoy on your console, as well as playing classic games like the SNES on the 3DS (and 2DS of course) for some added fun.
