RetroWars DS Homebrew

R4 3DS Homebrew Fun

Old School gaming for the win, as they say.  Retrowars DS is a full fledged space shoot em up game for the Nintendo 3DS console.  You will need the r4 3ds of course to be able to play it, because the game is 100% free for your to download and play.  Don't let the name fool you though.  When you read retro, this game is anything but.  The references to old school gaming are there purely because the game itself has an old school feel to it.  The game plays like any new modern game, and offers up all of the best of top down shooters.  It actually reminds us a little bit of games like Space invaders in the sense that you have the enemies above you and your one and only objective is to shoot them down.  It is honestly games like RetroWars DS that make having an R4 3DS so much fun.  Not only do you get to turn your Nintendo DS, DSi or Nintendo 3DS into a pretty darn powerful multimedia system, but you also get to download all of these amazing free games and applications too.  And when budgets are tight, and spending on games is a luxury, being able to visit a site like the NDHB.com database allows you to get some new software, without having to worry about what it's going to cost you in the long run.

This game is your classic shoot em up, and fans of the genre will recognize the familiar gameplay style and game mechanics right away.  What stands out for us in this game is that even if you aren't a big fan of space shoot em up games, you'll like this game just as much.  We have several people here at the office that are not big on shoot em up games, but have been playing this game non stop since they loaded them on their r4 3ds cards.

Watch the video below for just how high the quality of this ds homebrew game is.  This is precisely why the 3ds homebrew scene is as alive as it is, because of games like this that make it to the hands of the people.  The fact that this game is free is just the icing on the cake.  A good many gamers have told the developers that they would gladly pay for this game, without even batting an eye.  And we can see why.

You can download this game, and many others, from our 3ds homebrew section.  Installation is a quick copy of the .nds file to your micro SD card and you can play away all night long.
