R4 3DS .org

While often times indie games and work in progress games may leave a litte bit more to be desired, there are those break through freeware games that really make you appreciate all of the hard work and time that goes in to releasing a free game.  This is exactly the case with the 3DS homebrew game Warhawk for the R4 3DS.  It's an old school style shoot em up (or Shmup for short) game, that is a remake of one of the very best top down shooters ever released for home computers.  Warhawk made it's debut on the C64 and then was also ported to the ZX Spectrum, as well as later the Amiga.  Filled with breathtaking music tracks, and top down game play that is both as much fun, as it is difficult.  With power up galore, bad guys that just won't quit, and your token end of stage bosses, you'll have hours of fun playing this game on your DS, DSi or 3DS system.   

The game follows the same design and game modes as the original game.  The graphics have been updated however to match that of the current generation of hand held consoles, namely the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo 3DS systems.  The developers did work hard though to maintain the same look and feel that was there in the original.  After all, it's meant to be old school retro style.  The videos below can say a whole lot more than we could in words, so we'll let them speak for the game itself.  We know you're going to absolutely love this game, just as we, and so many others, already do.  

Did we mention that the game is completely FREE?  The developers have released this game to the homebrew community, enabling anyone with an R4 3DS or R4 DS card to download, play, and share this game with their friends.  In all honestly, we would easily pay $20.00 or more for this game if it were in a local game shop.... it's just that good.

Installing the games is also a breeze.  You'll need the R4 3DS of course.  Then you can head over to the offcial Warhawk homepage and download the file directly.  We'll be adding it to our 3ds homebrew section as well in the next few days.

Once downloaded, you'll need to use your micro SD card, and the micro SD Card reader to copy the .nds file over to the micro SD card you are using with your R4.  Once you have it all on your micro sd.  Just plug it back in to your r4, and boot up your 3DS system.  It will now show on the list of games for you to choose and play.  All that is left to do now is for you to enjoy one of the best shoot'em up homebrew games ever made.
