Portal 3DS - A Worthy Remake For The R4 3DS

Portal is quite possibly one of my favorite games of all time.  Its a frantic puzzle game that has the feel of a first person shooter - and I am huge fan of both genres of games.  Portal isn't a new game, the Sequel, Portal 2 is the new release, but the original game itself has endless replay value.  People keep going back to it over and over again.  It truly is a masterpiece of a puzzle game that requires quick reflexes, strategy and a mind that can take on the challenge.   We've been huge supporters of the DS homebrew scene, and have our very own 3ds homebrew section offering up some of our favorite games and applications.  It's truly a great pleasure and a great honour to be able to provide gamers with the tools they need to be able to explore the amazing work that results in some wonderful freeware games and applications for the DS, Dsi and 3DS systems.  Without the hard work of these genius coders, the homebrew scene wouldn't be here at all.

So it is with great pleasure that we show off the newest member of the Portal family.  Portal DS / 3DS.   Not from the orginal creators, but from a homebrew developer that clearly loves the game as much as we do.  The games developer, who goes by the nick name smealum, wants to make sure you know that this is still a work in progress, and an early build of the game, so don't be too harsh of a critic and bear in mind that games of this caliber take both time and a whole lot of devotion.  There are some bugs (and they're being fixed) but the game itself looks absolutely amazing.

According to Smealum, the game is nowhere even close to being truly playable at this stage.   The video shows off the fact that it has some of the memorable items and tricks from the PC version like switches, energy balls, turrets and of course, cubes. We'll be keeping a close eye on this game, and as soon as it's released, we'll be adding it to our 3DS homebrew section as well.

You will need an R4 3DS card to be able to download and play this game.  It will work on all R4 DS, R4i SDHC and R4 3DS cards, so your options are pretty much wide open when it comes to playing the game on your Nintendo DS, DSi or Nintendo 3DS systems.  For now, enjoy the video of some Portal DS Gameplay, and give some big thanks to the developer for the hard work!!!

Note: This is a completely UNOFFICIAL port of the Portal games for the Nintendo DS and 3DS.  It is also being released as a freeware / homebrew title, so you won't have to pay anything to be able to play it.
